33 Years and Counting

As Xebec completes 33 years this week, I realised it is time to do some soul searching. A good time to also take stock of some of our key achievements.

Xebec was one of the first agencies to start a digital wing way back in 2006 –I would say that we were practically evangelists in the space. From those fledgeling days,to now being a complete hybrid marketing agency we have indeed come a long way.

We were also the very first agency from Pune to have full-service branch offices in Mumbai, Bangalore, and even Delhi. As Zoom came into mainstream post Covid, the need for physical offices in different cities started getting eliminated. We consolidated most of our operations in one city with some key staff in the erstwhile cities where we had offices. But our clients were now from everywhere –U.S . U.K and across India. We served every industry and served them well –

From million dollar launches to more humble but edgy digital first campaigns we saw it all in 33 years. Along the way we would have literally handled over 100 product launches, launched new brands who went to becoming unicorns or market leaders at the bare minimum. Of course some faded away.

It is far easier to build from scratch rather than keep breaking and building fresh every maybe 3 to 4 years . Our business is changing so fast – Today we are all creative solutionists and idea machines who can execute for our clients’ business.

What remains constant is – Critical thinking and many great ideas every day, along with some big ideas which we bring to the table -This will never change.

I like to believe that ideas are what our clients come to us for -Delivery is a given considering our market presence and existence of over 3 decades.

So here are some predictions for the future:

  • 1. Only people who can think critically can remain employable and still have a business
  • 2. Thinking can be aided by AI but original thinkers will be at a premium. I will see this in my life time
  • 3. Hard core mentoring will be required to get people to the next level. All will not make it.
  • 4. People who have something to say which is different, refreshing which breaks new ground will have takers –They will stand out in a sea of AI content.
  • 5. People who can sell and build relationships will always have a job and business I daresay
  • 6. The nature of Marketing is soon going to undergo a sea change-Question is how many will survive the change?
  • 7. Will brands still be holy grail? In a sea of memes and moment marketing? I think so. I will still trust a brand while I will be happy to be entertained and engaged by it.

Well, we at Xebec hope to see all these changes in the marketplace and still hold our clients’ hands and help them win in the marketplace.

After all every day is a new day to build something meaningful, to contribute, to create something which was never there before. That’s creativity in my book. A blank slate I fill up as I go along.
